W.T. “Jackie” Smith, 78, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2016. W.T. was born March 29, 1938 to Clarence and Vera Dugan Smith in Benton, AR. He married the love of his life, Dois, on March 14, 1959. W.T. was a family man who always provided well for his family. He had a great sense of humor and loved practical jokes. He also enjoyed watching Family Feud and other game shows. He loved listening to his daughter play the piano.   W.T. was a man of many trades, but first and foremost he was a man of God and loved to share Gods word with any and all who would listen. W. T.’s favorite place to be was behind the pulpit. He was a pastor at Francois Missionary Baptist Church, Smith Creek Missionary Baptist Church,   as well as Pearl Hickory in LA. When W.T. wasn’t preaching the word of God, he worked as a carpenter building houses all over Arkansas. He had also been employed at LP Gas and Pioneer Concrete. After retirement W.T. kept the grounds of Francois Church and Cemetery. W.T. was an honest, loyal friend who would give you the shirt off his back. The number of people that are saddened at his passing is testament to the many lives he touched.

W.T. is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Carl Smith, his grandson, Timothy Tompkins, and a brother, Herbert Crouch.

W.T. leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Dois Smith of Malvern; his daughters, Linda Smith Cook of Glen Rose; Wanda (George) Andersen of Royal; his brothers, James Smith of Haskell; and George (Geneva) Smith of Houston, TX. He also leaves behind his grandchildren that he loved with all his heart, Emily Cook, Karena (Ronnie) Tucker, Matthew Siguaro and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held Friday July 29, 2016 from 5-8 PM in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Atkinson Chapel with Dr. W. A.  Dillard officiating.  Pallbearers are John Busch, Alan Ault, Danny Lewis, Wesley Barnett, Keith Bodiford and John Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Francois Missionary Baptist Church and Whitney at the Saline Hospice House. Interment will be at Francois Cemetery.

I have fond memories of W.T., Doris and the children attending Glen Rose MB Church. W.T. also delivered gas to my Grandmother, and she always looked forward to his visit. Thoughts and prayers as you travel this time of sorrow for the family. W. T. is in the present with his Savior, and is at peace.
